Hegseth declared that Maduro "is not a legitimately elected leader of Venezuela" and that "he is involved in drug trafficking and is formally indicted." "This gives our department more tools to offer the President options," he stated.

Three male narco-terrorists aboard the vessel were killed. The vessel was trafficking narcotics in the Eastern Pacific and was struck in international waters.
