2 week agoThe U.S. State Department notified the New York court handling the case against Maduro that it has formally recognized Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, as the country's head of state. "The United States recognizes Delcy Rodríguez as the only head of state capable of acting on behalf of Venezuela," reads the letter sent by Michael Kozak, the State Department's Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, to U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. In the letter, Kozak clarified that the United States has not recognized Maduro as the Venezuelan head of state since January 23, 2019, and that "this lack of recognition continues to this day." The official added that the U.S. objective is to achieve "a gradual process that creates the conditions for a peaceful transition to a democratically elected government" in Venezuela.
